Who the heck is J. Becker?
My background in carving began about six years ago. As an expert trained gunsmith and craftsman, my specialty soon developed in to doing restorations on historical firearms and preparing them for museum displays. Details were important then... And are still important in what I do today.
The fine art of gun stock carving developed over time as I found that more and more collectors were wanting to customize their rifles and turn them into a beautiful fine art piece.
“It’s all about the details” I truly believe it’s the details that really give our treasured items that WOW factor. Custom carving is fine art in wood. With custom carving on that special rifle or handgun... You’ll be turning your treasured gun into a family heirloom.
As an avid hunter and gun collector myself... I know the relationship you build with your hunting rifle. It’s like an “old friend”. Every time you pick it up you still remember that first elk... Or that moose that took 5 guys to pack it out of the Alaska wilderness. You’ve got the stories... And only your “old friend” can share every story with you. When you turn your rifle into an art piece, the value continues to go up... Not only in $$, but also in memories.
“How long does it take to carve a gun stock?” As with any fine art... It’s creation takes time. Details consume most of the time. Carving is also affected by the type of wood I am carving on, as well as the intricacy of the pattern. That being said, the average time to carve a complete gun stock ranges from one to two weeks.
